The RN Recovery Coordinator serves as a critical resource for those individuals seeking SUD treatment and in need of acute withdrawal and treatment services.  This position serves as a point of access, screens individuals for the appropriate level of care, presents patients for admission to D4, refers to lower levels of care through a “warm handoff” where appropriate, schedules intake appointments, and assists patients in admission to D4.  A critical aspect of this role is to serve as a liaison to the local recovery community to promote our services and facilitate safe, compassionate, low-barrier access to care.  This position requires a technically sound nurse professional comfortable working independently, understanding the interdependency with the rest of the care team, and a passion for working with the recovery community.     

  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.
  • Support and educate individuals, families, and other callers around substance use, detoxification, procedure of admission, and what to expect on the unit for treatment. Provide resources for the community and other providers for support services and ongoing treatment options.
  • Communicate daily and often with community partners and outside facilities as an admission liaison for potential direct admissions and support for recovery treatment centers.
  • Collect patient’s medical and substance use history on a screening tool for presentation to the provider for review.  Perform Medication Verification.
  • Explain procedures for entering the facility as a potential direct admission upon review: direct patients to the appropriate service level as needed for emergency room clearance for imminent and ongoing crises
  • Schedule appointments to the rapid admission center for patients looking for inpatient hospitalization on the detox unit
  • Communicate directly and coordinate bed assignments with the B-ED providers, nursing supervisors, and unit managers to assess the availability of chemical dependency admissions while considering provider coverage, staffing, and acuity of all behavioral units. 
  • Create a new admission chart and assign a bed on the unit in EPIC for the patient once approved by the provider.  Coordinate with registration staff around consent and workflow. 
  • Complete the nursing admission assessment. 
  • Complete safety screens, belongings record, and coordinate skin assessment with receiving nurse.
  • Coordinate patient transport with the inpatient unit staff and receiving nurse, nursing supervisors, and security if needed.
  • Assist as needed on the behavioral units: cover breaks, assist with CVO assignments, respond to Code Gray Emergencies when needed for surges and staff support, and any other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains all required competencies and completes annual compliance courses on time.
  • Other duties as consistent with this role.

 

Job Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Current Maine RN license required.
  • Basic Life Support certification required.
  • Graduate of an approved nursing program required.
  • Certified as being trained in the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI).
